Celebrity Supporter raises funds on Celebrity Mastermind!

Charity supporter, Paralympian Swimmer Sascha Kindred, appeared on a Christmas edition of BBC’s Celebrity Mastermind to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

With his chosen topic of ‘Manchester United since 1990’, Sascha took to the infamous black chair in front of host John Humphreys to be tested on his knowledge of the football club. Alongside Sascha, the episode - which aired on Monday 4th January at 7pm on BBC1- featured other celebrity guests including comedy writer Stewart Lee, actor John Thomson, and screen star Matthew Lewis.

Sascha did fantastically and although he didn’t win the show, all contestants took away £3000 for their chosen charity.

Sascha is an avid supporter of The Fire Fighters Charity having previously presented an award at the Charity’s 2009 Spirit of Fire Awards. He also showed his support for the Charity’s work  when he opened the swimming pool at the Charity’s Marine Court redevelopment in Littlehampton, West Sussex, alongside his swimming teammate and fiancée Nyree Lewis.

Both Sascha and Nyree enjoyed success at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. From the 2008 games Sascha gained two gold medals and one silver, and more recently has picked up yet more gold medals at both the World Short Course Championships in Rio de Janeiro, and the European Championships in Reykjavik.

Sascha said: "Both Nyree and I are all too familiar with how an injury or disability can affect everyday life, if adequate therapy and support is not received. The services that The Fire Fighters Charity provides to its beneficiaries are priceless."

The Fire Fighters Charity is the official organisation which exists for injured fire fighters during their times of need. It owns and manages three national rehabilitation centres based in Devon, Penrith and Littlehampton and operates a free phone helpline. In the course of a year, more than 17,000 people receive pioneering treatment and support services from the Charity.
