The Fire Fighters Charity gets social with Facebook
This year The Fire Fighters Charity launched its own facebook page and wants to encourage all members of the fire community to join its rapidly growing fan base of over 7,000 people.
Facebook is a social networking website where users can connect with existing friends, support various causes, create their own groups and upload pictures/ videos/ links to share with their friends. With more than 400 million active userssocial media is potentially an incredibly powerful tool to get the word out, connect with beneficiaries, rally support, and even raise money.
The Fire Fighters Charity page is proving to be a great way to communicate events and news from the Charity for free. The social networking site enables the fire community, their friends and other charity supporters to keep in touch with what’s going on at the Charity, view Charity pictures and videos, browse through events, and find fun ways to support The Fire Fighters Charity.
Each of the Charity’s fans has voluntarily opted to receive updates from the organisation that looks after injured fire fighters and their families. They are all like-minded people with an interest in the work of the Charity and the fire community
Alison White, PR Manager for The Fire Fighters Charity said “Facebook is both a low cost and friendly way for the Charity to engage with its ever growing beneficiary base, donors, volunteers and supporters alike. As the official charity for the Fire and Rescue Service community, our aim is to use Facebook as a platform to generate awareness across the UK.”
Whether it’s uploading pictures of treks, posting links to events, or just a message of thanks the Charity wants to see them as it’s all a great way of communicating through one main channel. The most interactions come from people commenting on the Charity’s daily status updates and fans posting their own charity fundraising events on the wall
According to Facebook statistics those who live in Manchester, London and Brighton are the Charity’s biggest users. With an even split between male and female. Facebook is just part of The Fire Fighters Charity’s new digital strategy together with launching a new website later in the year.
