Each year, fire fighters like Stuart Hopkin and Andy Creasey raise and donate small amounts of money for The Fire Fighters Charity by organising BBQ's, fetes, cricket matches etc, but on hearing of the families left behind after their Warwickshire colleagues tragically lost their lives last year, they wanted to raise a substantial amount of funds and awareness for the support that the Charity give to fire fighters and their families.
Being massively inspired by Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's TV documentary and books "Long Way Round/Down", Stuart and Andy will be riding their motorcycles for approximately 2816 miles, around the mainland coast of the UK.
Setting off on 1st July from Scarborough fire station they will be riding south around the country along coastal roads to thirteen different fire stations where, they will be taking part in Charity car washes every day. They will be washing cars until it gets dark or the cars stop coming, then joining the crew for their evening meal. Hopefully getting some sleep wherever they can on the fire stations and 'bells permitting', getting up bright and early ready for the next day, to start all over again, and again, and again.....
If you would like to support Stuart and Andy in rasing money for the Charity, you can sponsor them by getting in touch by emailing: stuart.hopkin@northyorksfire.gov.uk or andy.creasey@northyorksfire.gov.uk
