Beneficiary Support Services
Whilst thousands of people every year visit one of the Charity's three centres for therapy or recuperation services, some need help in other ways.
The Charity's Beneficiary Support Service (BSS) offers local and remote assistance to people in need nationwide – providing solutions to real life problems. The Charity has a nationwide network of trained volunteers and professionals, who are available at a local, more accessible level, with the primary objective of helping people within rapid timescales. The Service also seeks to empower the beneficiary to help themselves more readily, with a better support structure from the Charity in place to assist in this process.
A confidential and impartial helpline underpins the Service, and is the first point of contact for beneficiaries in need of assistance. The helpline offers confidential and impartial advice, guidance and support on a wide range of issues, and can also offer other forms of BSS support where necessary.
How can the Beneficiary Support Service help me?
In the first instance, the helpline can provide advice on a wide range of issues. When necessary, The Fire Fighters Charity will not shy away from working in conjunction with or referring individuals onto other professional agencies when necessary. After all, the well being of the beneficiary is the Charity's key concern and will endeavour to use all available and appropriate resources to help.
Importantly, the Beneficiary Support Policy enables trained volunteers and professionals within the Charity to support beneficiaries at a more local, accessible level. In accessing local services and statutory entitlements, the Beneficiary Support Coordinator may also be able to advocate on a beneficiary's behalf, therefore keeping solutions simple and effective.

The Helpline provides confidential and impartial advice and is the first step in helping beneficiaries to identify solutions to their problems. If you require local assistance or a home visit, a referral will be made to the Beneficiary Support Coordinator who will then contact you directly.
Applications for assistance through the Beneficiary Support Policy are assessed against specific criteria set by The Fire Fighters Charity and based on each individual's need. A financial assessment may need to be carried out as part of the application process and a home visit may be required to assess individual circumstances. Such visits may be carried out by the Beneficiary Support Coordinator or a trained Home Visitor.
