Kent Fire Stations Motorbike Ride
On Tuesday 13th July 2010 a group of motorcyclists will start their ride from Deal Fire Station, supported by the Kent Fire Bike Team. The aim is to travel around the county of Kent, visiting all the 23 wholetime fire stations in the county. We are doing this in the memory of friend and colleague, Graham Clague, who spent his last few weeks in the care of the Pilgrims Hospice. Please show your support by sponsoring them or by simply making a donation to our collection for the Hospice and The Firefighters Charity. If you would like to make a donation then leave it with your Charity rep and the team will collect it as they go round the stations. The team also insist that if you want to join them as they make their way round, please feel free to do so. If you would like any further information please contact either Daz Dennis at Whitstable Fire Station on 01227 281001 (ext 5850), or Kent Fire Bike, or you can contact Gary Hyland at Deal Fire Station 01304 389329 (ext 5910). Please help if you can, to say a huge thank you to the nurses and staff at the hospice and of course The Firefighters Charity for their support to Graham's family at a difficult time.
Matt Wainwright attends Spirit of Fire Awards 2008
At the 2008 Spirit of Fire Awards, the Charity was joined by fire fighter Matt Wainwright. However, he was not there to sit back and enjoy the ceremony, instead he was performing close-up magic in the green room to the Charity's celebrity supporters. Matt also dazzled guests with his magic skills. When Matt isn't fighting fires, he can be found entertaining guests with his magic at various different events including weddings, private parties, corporate functions and hen nights.

The Longest Day Challenge
On the 21st June 2007, firefighters from the Green Watch at Dover Fire Station (Shaun Cullen, Mark Foulds, and also a friend and local carpenter named Brett Meredith) are set to begin a gruelling task that they affectionately call 'The Longest Day'.
Equipped with just a kayak each (a type of canoe), food supplies and sheer determination, the three men will set off from Sennen Cove (at the south western tip of Cornwall, close to Lands End) until they reach their destination: St. Margaret's Bay, near Dover. The journey will be around 450 miles long and will take a total of 14 days to complete.
As well as any unpredictable weather conditions they may face, the three extreme fundraisers will be burdened with their total supplies required for the journey, weighing their kayaks down to a total of 100kg each. But as Sean testifies, it is a challenge they are looking forward to. The event was dreamt up before the New Year and now that the dream is becoming a reality, they are raring to go.
