Mum's had the drive of their life!
The Fire Fighters Charity and Grove House Hospice raised over £22,000 at the Ladies Driving Challenge held on Mother's Day, 14 March 2010 at Bovingdon Airfield in Hertfordshire. The Ladies Driving Challenge was an action packed day where women drove a variety of large and unusual vehicles. Participants tried their hands at manoeuvring vehicles such as Fire Engines, 4x4's, HGV's, Heavy Plant and tractors - all kindly donated by local companies including Kane Haulage, one of the event's main sponsors. A big thank you must go to Rachel at Bovingdon Airfield, who let us use the fantastic venue free of charge, and to all of our volunteers and the local businesses who brought vehicles on the day at no cost. Last year we raised £7,500 and through the generosity of all those who sponsored and took part, this event was the biggest and the best ever in Hertfordshire. It was so popular we filled all 150 spaces! Each year the event grows and next time we are expecting it to be full once again, so if you would like to take part, please do get in touch sooner rather than later. Fire Fighters go The Whole Way... ...Round!
2 Men, 1 Mini and A lot of Miles" - Simon Stanton (Dunstable Fire Station) and Chris Luscombe are currently planning a charity rally which involves driving over 2,500 miles around the British Isles. The purpose of the rally is to raise money and awareness for the Fire Fighters Charity and Marie Curie Cancer Care. The lads are setting themselves a time limit of 5 days to complete the trip which means travelling up to 500 miles a day, an easy distance if travelling on motorways, but almost our entire journey is on coastal roads or even tracks. We will be travelling from the sandy shores of the south coast to the hilly desolate plains of the Scottish highlands, and estimate driving for up to 16 hours a day, and all this is going to be done in a classic mini lovingly called Cosmo! Sponsorship forms will be posted to each station and we appreciate any donations big or small. Alternatively donate through the website: www.thewholewayround.co.uk. For more information or to find out how to get involved please email: thewholewayround@yahoo.co.uk, visit the website or contact Chris Luscombe or Simon Stanton at Dunstable Fire station.
