Annual Leave and Time Away from Work

Basic annual leave entitlement is 25 days plus bank holidays; rising to 27 days plus bank holidays after 5 years’ continuous service (entitlement will be pro-rated for part time employees).

The annual leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March inclusive.

We provide a range of paid or unpaid leave to accommodate time you may need to be away from work such as compassionate leave, jury service and unpaid leave.


We offer a non-contributory personal pension plan.

Eligible employees are auto-enrolled into our pension scheme and the Charity contributes 2%. After completion of a qualifying period, the Charity makes contributions of 8%.

You may choose to make personal contributions.

Life Assurance

Three times basic salary to nominated individuals should an employee die in service.

Sick Pay

Staff Sick Pay Scheme – an employee absent from work owing to sickness or injury will, on meeting the eligibility of the Charity, be entitled to receive Staff Sick Pay.

Childcare Vouchers

We offer a salary sacrifice scheme allowing employees who earn above the minimum salary threshold to receive childcare vouchers. These payments are exempt from National Insurance contributions and Tax.

Beneficiary Status

As an employee of the Charity you are also a Beneficiary of the Charity, meaning you, your partner and dependent children can access the Charity’s services available.

Employees with over 5 years’ service who subsequently leave the Charity retain eligibility.

Flexible Working, Wellbeing and Healthcare

The Fire Fighters Charity recognises the importance of supporting employees to balance their work and home life and offers various flexible working arrangements where it is possible to do so.  Employees have access to an Employee Assistance Programme – A free 24hr confidential helpline is available for all employees, partners and children; providing signposting, advice, guidance or if required telephone or face to face counselling, on a range of personal issues.

We have a discounted health cash plan whereby employees who join, pay a monthly premium for the scheme that best suits them. The monthly premium will include yourself, your partner and children up to the age of 18 living at the policy holder’s address
