If you are considering making a will, here are the answers to some of the questions that people often ask. However, The Fire Fighters Charity strongly recommends that you also seek professional advice from a solicitor.
Is it expensive to make a will?
The cost of making a will doesn’t need to be expensive as most solicitors charge very reasonable rates for simple wills.
Can you recommend a solicitor to write my will?
We cannot recommend a particular solicitor and we currently do not provide a will writing service. If you need help to find a local solicitor, we advise contacting the Law Society:
In England and Wales go to www.lawsociety.org.uk or call 020 7242 1222.
In Scotland, contact the Law Society of Scotland at www.lawscot.org.uk, or call 0131 226 7411.
In Northern Ireland go to www.laswoc.ni.org, or call 0289023 1614.
Alternatively you can contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau.
Can I afford to leave a gift in my will?
Most people are surprised by the value of their total estate. After you have provided for those you care for, leaving a proportion of your estate is a great way of making a difference to a cause you care about.
Do I have enough to leave a gift in my will?
A common misconception is that a gift has to be an enormous sum of money. This is not the case, any gift left in a will, no matter how small, is important to The Fire Fighters Charity.
