The Fire Fighters Charity’s Spirit of Fire awards ceremony began in 2005 when the then Fire Services National Benevolent Fund hosted a new national awards ceremony to recognise ‘individuals, stations and brigades for their work, support and dedication of the Charity.’
The 2005 event was held at the Hilton Hotel in Bradford,Yorkshire and saw awards presented across seven categories.
A further ceremony followed in 2006, before a one year break. Spirit of Fire 2008 brought the ceremony to London and to Wembley Stadium, as well as to Downing Street for the first time, for a reception with then Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
2009’s Spirit of Fire was once again held at Wembley Stadium and Sir Bruce Forsyth was amongst the celebrity guests in attendance. 2010’s event followed suit at the famous stadium, but 2011’s event moved to East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf.
