Gary’s story
Gary Williams has inspired fire cadets across the UK to fundraise for years, and hopes by sharing his own story of support, he’ll also encourage members of the fire services community to reach out when they need support, too.
Everyone needs support sometimes. Hear from some of the people Fire Fighters Charity has helped to move forward with positive change, personal achievement, progress and transformation in their health and wellbeing.
Gary Williams has inspired fire cadets across the UK to fundraise for years, and hopes by sharing his own story of support, he’ll also encourage members of the fire services community to reach out when they need support, too. Julie Tan and her family chose to collect donations for us at her dad's funeral, as a tribute to his incredible career in the fire service – and the support he received in retirement. Wayne Field has been a firefighter for 20 years and his daughter, Destiny, has now followed in his footsteps. They share how open communication helps them both – and why having access to wellbeing support is so important. Cheshire Crew Manager James McCall has shared how our Welfare team helped his family welcome an assistance dog into their lives — and how it’s transformed the world of their young son, Bodhi. Sue Park has shared some of her memories of her beloved Uncle Pete and Aunt Betty, both of whom enjoyed long careers in the fire service and supported us throughout.
