Jonny’s story
Lancashire Group Manager, Jonny Ashton, says a stay at Jubilee House, our centre in Cumbria, provided the break he needed to begin building back his strength following cancer treatment.
Everyone needs support sometimes. Hear from some of the people Fire Fighters Charity has helped to move forward with positive change, personal achievement, progress and transformation in their health and wellbeing.
Lancashire Group Manager, Jonny Ashton, says a stay at Jubilee House, our centre in Cumbria, provided the break he needed to begin building back his strength following cancer treatment. When Pat Johnson’s beloved husband, Bill, passed away, she not only received support from her own family – but her wider “fire family” too. She shares how, through stays at our centres and Living Well Groups, she’s gone on to establish lifelong friendships. Watch Manager Lewis Jeffery has become one of our volunteer facilitators on the HOPE Programme after discovering the difference it can make to overall mental health first-hand. Cheshire Crew Manager James McCall has shared how our Welfare team helped his family welcome an assistance dog into their lives — and how it’s transformed the world of their young son, Bodhi. Alison Byrne-Paul, who is married to a Cheshire firefighter, has been receiving support from us at Jubilee House ever since being diagnosed with a severe brain tumour.
