Will Raeper, an on-call firefighter with North Yorkshire FRS, received our support when a serious injury meant he faced months off work from his day job, with a dramatic cut to his income. Miriam Heppell is living with a genetic condition which causes chronic pain and seriously impacts her movement. She says the support she’s had, both in a centre and online, has changed her day-to-day life – and it’s all thanks to your donations. Alex Abrams, 23, is taking on two and a half marathons this year in memory of her dad, who died suddenly at work in November 2022. Here she shares why supporting our charity meant so much to him – and now to her as well… Thanks to your kind donations, we’ve been able to support Paul Burchett - a firefighter with Humberside FRS – with his physical health and through mounting financial challenges, which in turn had begun impacting his mental health. This summer we are launching Fire Friends, a telephone befriending provision, offering social support and connection to our retired beneficiaries - and one of the first to try it is Joan O'Connor.
