Actions speak louder than words for the staff at Asda Luton who recently presented Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service with a £5,000 donation in recognition of the amazing work of firefighters who attended a destructive fire at the 44,000 square foot superstore situated on Wigmore Lane.

David White, General Store Manager at Asda Luton said; “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone at the Fire Service for the responsive way they dealt with the fire at Asda Luton. Their hard work prevented maximum damage to the store and made sure that no Asda colleagues or members of the public were injured.”

The store recently reopened its doors to the public in early July following a £7.6 million makeover with Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service on hand to provide staff with a hands-on safety lesson. The 30 minute presentation covered everything from escape routes and smoke alarms to cooking safely in store.

Thomas Warner, Prevention Support Manager for the Bedford Fire and Rescue Service said; “We were delighted to be asked to come in store and provide a lesson in fire safety for everyone in store.

“Through the delivery of safety talks Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is able to inform people about the importance of working smoke alarms and educate them about potential fire hazards in their home.”

Ade Yule, Borough Commander at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue service added; “We’re very grateful to Asda for the generous donation. The Fire Fighters Charity plays such an important role in supporting the fire community and is run almost entirely on donations from fire community and the public.”
