From my first day of service, 28 years ago, I’ve always been a big supporter of our charity, and in recent years I have taken on the role of charity rep at Long Eaton Station. I have assisted firefighters in getting help and support from the charity, so I fully understand the importance of the work the charity does.

Over the years our station has raised thousands of pounds for the charity – cycle rides and skydives to ladies driving days and not forgetting the renowned national car wash twice a year.

I have decided to take on the London Marathon, on April 23, to surge awareness and much needed funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, and in an unusual twist, my son Thomas has been accepted via the London Marathon ballot system, and will be one of the youngest runners on the day, turning 18 just eight days before the event. Thomas has decided to dedicate his run to The Fire Fighters Charity.

Our training has been going really well, I’m well on the way to beating my goal of coming in between 4hours 30 mins – 5hours, and Thomas is getting the miles in his legs and is looking good for a great time! But having youth on your side always helps!!

In January we joined Long Eaton parkrun, in full kit, raising additional awareness and sponsorship for The Fire Fighters Charity, supported by many Long Eaton colleagues. You can watch a short video here.
