Are you a carer?

Do you look after someone with a life-long condition?

Are you struggling with the burden of caring for someone you love?

Do you ever feel invisible, that being a carer makes you hidden in plain sight?

Would you like to meet more carers in the Fire Family?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, read on…

It’s one of the highlights of the year in The Fire Fighters Charity, but unfortunately the coronavirus lockdown has forced us to rethink our plans for Carers Week. But if Glastonbury can relocate to our homes, so can we.

Therefore we’re delighted to be able to invite our carers, beneficiaries and supporters to join us for a virtual Carers Week, from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 June.

The theme of this year’s National Carers Week is Making Carers Visible, so what better time than to shine a light on the amazing people working tirelessly at home to support someone they love? We’re all about caring for our carers, the superheroes behind closed doors.

We’re holding three events that we’d love you to (virtually) join us for. Details of these are below:

Monday 8 June: The benefits of physical activity: 2pm

Senior Exercise Therapist Rachel Rees is hosting a live workshop to discuss the benefits of movement on your physical and mental health. Join us for an interactive Q&A before Rachel leads us through a fun session to get us all moving and shake off the cobwebs. If you’d like to take part in our Physical Activity Workshop, please register your interest below and we’ll be in touch.

Wednesday 10 June: Drop-in clinic with our Welfare Team: 2pm

Something on your mind or affecting the daily wellbeing of you or your loved one? Our wonderful Welfare Caseworkers are hosting a virtual clinic where anyone can drop in for 15-minute slots to discuss any concerns you may have or support you may need. If you’d like to take part in our Welfare Drop-in Clinic, just click on the link below any time between 2 and 4pm on Wednesday where a member of the team will be waiting to talk to you.

Friday 12 Jun: Virtual afternoon tea and bingo 2.30pm

Bring your choice of hot drink (and optional piece of cake) to join us for a virtual afternoon tea. This is your chance to put your feet up with a brew, meet some fellow carers from within the fire family and have a natter. We’ll also be hosting a bingo game with prizes available, all to enjoy from the comfort of your own home. If you’d like to take part in our afternoon tea and bingo, please register your interest below and we’ll be in touch.
