StrongArm won Team of The Year at Spirit of Fire 2015

Winners of the Team Of The Year Award at the 2015 Spirit of Fire Awards, the StrongArm Challenge team is looking to take on its biggest test to date this September with a four-day multi-event challenge.

The team, encompassing firefighters from both Tyne and Wear and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Services will swim the length of Lake Windermere, climb England’s four highest peaks, cycle 110 miles and take on the Great North Run in fancy dress.

The Challenge will remember firefighter Peter Metcalfe

Once again taking on the challenge in memory of firefighter Peter Metcalfe, who died in 2012 from stomach cancer at the age of 35, the team is looking to add to the £100,000 total it has already raised since 2013 and will this year be raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity and the If You Care Share Foundation.

Donations got off to a great start last month when the team held a bucket collection outside a Little Mix concert at Gateshead Stadium. Fans of the girl group deposited more than £1,400 and Warren Metcalfe, brother of Peter Metcalfe and a firefighter with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The StrongArm Challenge and fundraising collections have been a fantastic way of remembering Peter and bringing people together in his name to raise money for some great causes.

“We’d like to thank all of the people who gave so generously [at the Little Mix concert] on Thursday evening – their donations will make a huge difference and are greatly appreciated by all of us at team StrongArm.”

The event takes place from the 6th-9th September and you can sponsor the team via its MyDonate page here.
