To mark our 75th anniversary, we’re asking you to take on your own 75 miles challenge to help support members of the fire services community in need. The distance is set, but how you get there is completely up to you.

In just a few weeks’ time, Chris Davison, 38, Operational Crew Manager with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, will begin his three-day-long challenge in the beautiful Lake District, summiting 75 fells in total.

Chris said: “My journey begins in the village of Ulverston situated in the south of the district and will see me walking northbound, eventually finishing in Carlisle. The route has been specifically designed so that I will take on the highest mountains in England such as Scafell Pike and Helvellyn among other Wainwright fells along the way, I will summit 75 fells in total and aim to achieve all this within 75 hours.

“I have been in the fells training on a weekly or fortnightly basis and so far, so good, I’m sure there will be some difficulties ahead with aches and pains and tiredness but I have adopted the attitude ‘It can be done and will be done’.

“I’m taking part because I want to support the fantastic work provided by the Charity to those in need and this is my way of showing appreciation. The Fire Fighters Charity does an amazing job and I’ve seen first-hand through colleagues the support and care they provide and how vital this has been for the morale of our brothers and sisters.

“I can’t praise them enough for what they offer in the way of care, support and rehabilitation to colleagues and their families within the fire and rescue service community. We all joined to help protect and assist our communities in the most dangerous of possibilities and I believe the public feel safer knowing we are there to catch them when they fall. I feel safer and encouraged that we have The Fire Fighters Charity if we ever fall.

“At Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service we thrive on supporting the safety and welfare of our employees. Welfare of our colleagues is paramount and a top priority therefore supporting the Charity is just one of the methods we achieve our high standards.”
