A Spalding-based business has generously donated £10,000 to us, as a thank you to local Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service crews who helped them during flash flooding in the area last year.

Food manufacturing firm Bakkavor also delivered cream cakes to local fire stations as a direct thank you for their support.

Bakkavor’s site was heavily flooded in August, but fire service personnel were quick to attend the scene and help pump water away, ensuring the business could continue operating soon after.

Kuldip Bains, Business Director for Bakkavor Salads, said: “The quick response from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue was fantastic and we can’t thank them enough for their help to ensure our people and our operations were safe following the floods. We hope our donation to charity can make a real difference to the fire service community.”

Lee Marsh, Station Manager at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and our Charity Co-ordinator, added: “During the evening of Tuesday 16th and the morning of Wednesday 17th August, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue received a huge amount of calls about heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in Market Rasen, Louth and the Spalding area. Our crews worked tirelessly to help not just the residents protect their property, but also the businesses in those communities to ensure that they could continue trading.

“The flooding at Bakkavor was challenging due to the volume of water needing to be moved from the site to the River Welland. However, we are fortunate to have a High Volume Pump based in Lincolnshire that is ideal for this type of incident, pumping 7000 litres of floodwater away per minute. We were able to use this to great effect and allow Bakkavor to return to ‘business as usual’ much quicker than if we used our conventional pumps on the appliances.

“As the Charity Co-ordinator for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, I’m overwhelmed by this generous donation by the management team at Bakkavor and I want to thank them on behalf of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and The Fire Fighters Charity. This donation will go towards supporting serving and retired firefighters and their immediate families throughout their lives.”

On behalf of everyone at The Fire Fighters Charity, a huge thank you to Bakkavor for this donation. We couldn’t continue to offer the support we do without generous contributions like this. To donate today, click here:
