Each of them will include information on how to access further help and support from Fire Fighters Charity.
Understanding & managing trauma
Thursday 20 August: 6-7 pm
This session is designed to help operational firefighters better understand the impact of trauma and develop practical strategies to support their wellbeing and recovery. You’ll cover:
- What happens in the brain and body during and after traumatic experiences
- How to recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma
- The recovery process and practical coping techniques
- When and how to access professional support.
Wellbeing conversations
Monday 24 August: 10-11 am
This session is designed for Crew, Watch, Station and Group Managers and will help you build confidence in having supportive and effective wellbeing conversations with your teams. You’ll cover:
- The key principles of a successful wellbeing conversation
- How to create a safe and supportive environment
- Common barriers to wellbeing discussions and how to overcome them
- Ways to encourage open, honest conversations and help others feel comfortable speaking up.
Understanding trauma: supporting others
Thursday 27 August: 1-2 pm
This session is aimed at partners, family members and those close to people working in the fire and rescue service. It provides practical guidance on understanding trauma and supporting a loved one through recovery. You’ll cover:
- What happens in the brain and body following traumatic experiences
- How to recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma
- The recovery process and helpful coping strategies
- Practical ways to offer support while respecting boundaries
- When and where to seek additional help and guidance
