Emergency Services Day 2026

To every member of our fire services community, we thank you for your dedication and service this 999 Day.

Every day, people working in Fire and Rescue Services protect and serve their communities – often putting themselves at risk to help others.

Their work can take a toll on their health and wellbeing, and the impact of service can mean living with physical and psychological injuries. Sometimes the effects are immediate. Sometimes they can surface years, even decades, later.

Emergency Services Day is an opportunity to recognise and thank everyone who serves our communities across the emergency services.

999 day is also a reminder that people who spend their lives helping others may need support themselves.

That’s why we’re here: to support people in the fire services community to cope with the impact of service on their health and wellbeing.

Sherine Wheeler, Chief Executive of Fire Fighters Charity, says:

“They step forward to give help and comfort when we need them most. But a career in the fire service leaves its mark in many ways. Some are visible while others are carried quietly. 999 Day is a chance to pause, reflect and acknowledge their contribution – and the dedication, courage and commitment behind it.

“At Fire Fighters Charity, we’re here for the health and wellbeing of the people behind the service, giving them care and support, without judgement, always.”

At 9am, on 9 September, there will be a two-minutes’ silence to remember all those emergency staff who’ve died in service to our nation. Please join with us in taking this time for reflection, and in thanking all our emergency services for the incredible work they do.

We’re here for people in the fire services community, giving the healthcare and wellbeing support they need, during and after their service. Clinical care. Personal wellbeing. Practical support. We’re here to help.

They will be there for you on your worst day. Help us be there for them on theirs.
