As a national charitable provider of healthcare and wellbeing support to the UK’s fire services community, Fire Fighters Charity wholeheartedly welcomes an announcement made by Government which clearly endorses the importance of firefighter health and wellbeing, during service and beyond.
A planned Concordat will set out shared expectations, build on best practice and evidence and provide a mechanism for working in partnership to improve health and wellbeing outcomes.
As part of a long-term promise to better understand the health and wellbeing risks for firefighters, the Government has committed to consistent, regular health checks for every firefighter and to fund research into the health and wellbeing impacts of the hazards they face.
Sherine Wheeler, Chief Executive of Fire Fighters Charity, said: “Fire Fighters Charity has over 80 years’ expertise in fulfilling the health and wellbeing needs of individuals in the fire services community across the UK, both during and after their service; we expect to work closely in partnership to drive the targeted improvements.”
Everyday, people working in fire and rescue services across the UK face tremendous danger and are subjected to risks to their health and wellbeing that can have lasting impacts well beyond their service. Fire Fighters Charity is proud to be where their courage meets timely and tailored healthcare and wellbeing support, during and after service. Below, you can hear from just a few of the many thousands of people we’ve helped with their health and wellbeing in the last year:
