A firefighter has run round Jersey twice – covering around 150km – to raise thousands of pounds for us and another cause close to his heart.
Matt Roberts, who works for Jersey FRS, started the huge challenge on Easter Saturday and had supporters cheering him on along the route from start to finish. He covered over 12,000ft elevation on mixed terrain and the whole challenge took around 23 hours and 8 minutes.
Incredibly, out of that time, Matt only found himself alone for 10 minutes, as friends, family and colleagues joined him for stints along the way.
Matt raised almost £6,000 with the challenge, which will be split equally between us and FOJO Friends of Jersey Oncology.
He said: “It was actually really enjoyable and was a massive team effort. Out of 23 hours of solid running, I was on my own for less than 10 minutes. I think that’s a testament for the Fire Service and friends and family. It was incredible. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“A friend and colleague ran an ultra, covering 65km, with others covering marathon distances and others over doubling their longest run distances, which is truly incredible. It was all in aid of two fantastic charities and I think we all had a lot of fun in the process.
“The support really has been incredible and quite surreal! I genuinely didn’t think I’d raise over £1,000 so £5,000 is incredible. If anyone would still like to donate, please do!”
