Former on-call firefighter, Rob Barks, and his wife, Liz, have received nursing support, physiotherapy and mental wellbeing care after a challenging few years. Bedfordshire firefighter Euan Irwin feared his career in the fire service could be over when he suffered a major back injury – but he says tailored care and support helped him get back on the run. After almost three decades spent protecting others, retired firefighter Neil Adair is now facing his own toughest challenge: living with motor neurone disease. Thanks to a garage conversion, however, he’s been able to remain at home with his loved ones. Steve Norman, former Deputy Assistant Commissioner at LFB, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 10 years ago. He’s now sharing his story to raise awareness of the disease – and the difference understanding and support can make. Wayne Field has been a firefighter for 20 years and his daughter, Destiny, has now followed in his footsteps. They share how open communication helps them both – and why having access to wellbeing support is so important.
