A West Sussex firefighter has raised more than £10,000 by skipping continuously for 12 hours, proving just how far determination can go.
Inspired by seeing several colleagues supported over the years, Mark committed to a year-long training plan: skipping for at least 30 minutes every day throughout 2025 to prepare for the challenge.
Starting early on 30 December outside Sainsbury’s in Bognor Regis, Mark skipped right through to 8pm that evening, with supporters joining him throughout.

It was particularly special for him, as it also marked his 20th year in the fire service, which he says inspired him to push himself for a cause very close to his heart:
“Fire Fighters Charity not only supports firefighters and their families when they need it most, but anyone working in the UK’s Fire and Rescue Service, as well as those who have retired from the job,” says Mark.
“While I’ve not needed their support myself, I know many colleagues who have benefitted from both physical and mental health support, so I’ve seen the huge difference it can make. This year marks my 20th year in the service, and I can’t think of a better way to give something back.”
Louise Furneaux, Regional Fundraiser at Fire Fighters Charity, says Mark’s efforts over the months leading up to the challenge were “incredible”.
“Mark put his all into this challenge and the funds he’s raised speak for themselves. He’s smashed his target and that keeps rising, thanks to his wonderful supporters and some generous sponsors.
“The money Mark is raising will make such a difference and will go directly towards our care and support for others – just like him – who risk so much for their communities every day.”
