Fire Family Fundraisers can be anything you wish them to be, and one young girl who put her own inspiring spin on it this year was Heather Kent.

Heather, 15, who lives in Fairford, Gloucestershire, doesn’t have a direct link to the fire service herself but wanted to give something back to the fire and rescue personnel she sees protecting her community every day.

For the sixth year in a row, she spent the whole of Lent going out with bin liners every day to clear litter from her community – in return for donations. And this year, she chose to support us, raising an impressive £1,577.

“I first started with a beach clean and then I wanted to bring it back to my hometown,” says Heather. “I’ve done it every year since, for different charities.

“Firefighters make a massive difference in their communities. I live near to a fire station so I see a lot of what they do, while also raising a lot of money for the charity when they can. That’s what inspired me to choose The Fire Fighters Charity this year.

“Firefighters are always so lovely to everyone, if they can stop and speak, they will. It’s not just about the great work they do as firefighters, but also how they’re such a great spirit to the community.

“They make such a big impact on our world and I believe that they deserve recognition for their efforts in the community. They put their lives at risk on a daily basis to make this world a better place.”
