Control Officers Helen and her daughter Laura received support at Marine Court and now hope to encourage any colleagues who’d benefit from help to reach out too. Shirley Armitt was one of the first people to attend our Falls Management Exercise Programme (FaME) at Jubilee House and says it helped her come to terms with her MS and find ways of boosting her overall wellbeing. When former firefighter Chelsea Taylor broke her back in 2022, she was temporarily paralysed and spent months out of work. However, she went on to build up her strength and get back on the run, before pursuing a new career in Fire Control. Lancashire Group Manager, Jonny Ashton, says a stay at Jubilee House, our centre in Cumbria, provided the break he needed to begin building back his strength following cancer treatment. Tony Terry retired from the fire service over 20 years ago – but he says visiting our centre following an operation felt like “being back in the fire service again”.

Shirley: “The FaME Programme really built my confidence – it’s been marvellous”

Jonny: “It’s first-class treatment and you leave knowing you can come out the other side”
Tony: “We’re a family, no matter who we are, and the charity will always be there for us”
