I started volunteering for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service in 2012, and was aware that at a lot of the events we went to we were raising money for The Fire Fighter’s Charity.

I didn’t really know much about the charity though, and only when I was employed by the fire service did I start to learn more about the wide-range of services they offer and the extensive support they can provide to beneficiaries.

The opportunity then arose for me to become the Service Coordinator for the charity, and I jumped at the chance! I love to meet new people, and help a cause I believe in, and this role gives me the perfect opportunity for both.

“I also have some personal health issues, and I know that the charity will be there for me should I need support, and there is no amount I could raise to pay them back for that peace of mind.”

London will be my 3rd marathon, and I am no less nervous about the prospect!  Training has been a slow start this time around due to some personal issues, but I am back on track and looking forward to participating in some other events such as the Nuts Challenge, and the Silverstone Half Marathon in the lead up!

As well as this I have done quiz nights, car boot sales, and a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ competition and will be doing a walk down from our aerial ladder platform which stands 42 metres when fully extended! I have also received many donations from colleagues and through my Just Giving page.

I am so thankful for the support and encouragement, I can’t think of a more worthwhile charity to represent.
