Last year, a friend of mine was paralysed from the waist down following a fall in the sea whilst on his own stag do. He has since been receiving treatment and support from the charity and he cannot speak highly enough of the care he has received. The charity met James last week, in Jubilee House, where they spoke to him about his treatment. His full story will be shared soon!

“Each month I contribute from my firefighters wage, a small donation to help, but it is not nearly enough.”

Mark Hayward

Although I have never needed The Fire Fighters charity myself, I have other friends that have used the rehab centres to get them back to operational fitness and they have all expressed their feelings on how well they were looked after.

This will be the second time that I run the Marathon, and I was lucky enough this time to get my own place through the ballot. I previously ran the London Marathon back in 2014 but injured a tendon in my ankle 3 weeks before. I managed to hobble around the course as I didn’t want to let down the people who had sponsored me, but it was horrendous and the time I completed it in isn’t even worth mentioning! Therefore this time, I just want to avoid injury and just complete it in a respectable time.

Training is going well with a number of half marathons completed including the recent Silverstone Half Marathon in 1 hour 50 mins.
