Staff from control rooms right across the UK have raised £1,800 for us by hosting dress down days over the weekend of 18-19 June – with some even making them a regular occurrence from now on.

A total of 22 control rooms took part in planned events, as part of a nationwide fundraiser organised by Kent Fire & Rescue Control – which holds monthly dress downs in aid of us.

Despite some control rooms only having 3-5 people on duty, they all managed to raise £1854.38 so far, with some staff still collecting.

Just a few of the highlights included:

  • West Midlands FRS organised a dress down and Jubilee weekend afternoon tea, raising more than £443
  • Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS staff decided to dress up for the day in some incredible outfits
  • Tyne & Wear and Derbyshire FRS opted for a pyjama party dress down
  • North Wales FRS staff got their counterparts in North Wales Police Control involved and raised over £115
  • Cleveland Fire Brigade organised a raffle in addition to their dress down and raised over £149
  • Several control rooms organised cake sales to raise extra funds, including Warwickshire (£160.45), Leicestershire (£176), Tyne & Wear (£122.72), Kent (£297.95) and North Yorkshire (£108), North West (£103) and Hereford & Worcester (£95).

Nikki Haxton-Jones, who helped organise the event in her role in Kent’s Control team, says: “It was really amazing seeing all the control rooms come together over the weekend. It was particularly warm that weekend so we were extremely thankful to be in cooler clothes!

“A huge thank you to everyone who organised, took part and donated from: Warwickshire; Staffs & West Mids; Leicestershire; Tyne & Wear; Cleveland; Hampshire IOW; Surrey & Sussex; Norfolk; Kent; North Yorkshire; North West Fire Control; North Wales; Devon & Somerset; Hereford & Worcester; Dorset & Wiltshire; Hertfordshire; Guernsey; Derbyshire; Essex; Gloucestershire and Bedfordshire. We will see you all same time, same place next year!”

The team at Kent FRS are now hoping to make this an annual event so if anyone wants to take part in 2023, please email [email protected].

And finally, a huge thank you to everyone that took part in aid of your Charity – you’re making such a huge difference! Here are just a few highlights, and please remember to share any more you may have with us on MyFFC.
